The other day Moemi and I had met with one of my friends to hang out in Ginza where we did a little window shopping. We just really wanted to get outside and get fresh air.

Afterwards we headed to Tully's and got some drinks and snacks. I didn't take any photos because my hair was a mess. 🤸🏽‍♀️

But there was something I wanted to talk about which completely blew my mind.

I was scrolling through Japanese blog forums recently (thank you, Google Chrome’s automatic translation software), and I stumbled upon a story that could honestly be the plot of a TV drama. Japanese moms and wives, I swear, live some of the most fascinating—and scandalous—lives.

This particular blog post was written by a single mom who lives with her 7-year-old son in a modest apartment complex. She described how her neighborhood is split between average families like hers and wealthier ones living in a nearby luxury building. Over time, she became friendly with some of the wealthy moms—mostly through school events and casual wine nights. But one mom in particular, “Kaori,” stood out.

Kaori was polished, glamorous, and seemingly perfect, but behind closed doors, she was full of complaints. Her main gripe? Her husband, “Toru,” whom she described as annoyingly demanding, especially when it came to sex. During one of their boozy mom hangouts, Kaori vented about him yet again, saying something the blogger couldn’t believe: “You should borrow him! He’s always bothering me for it, so why not let him bother you for a change?”

At first, the blogger thought Kaori was joking. But as the days went by, she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Toru wasn’t just Kaori’s husband—he was hot. He was tall, had a warm smile, and spent so much time playing with her son that she started to fantasize about what life might be like if he were her partner. Her son adored him, and it wasn’t lost on her how much she craved a father figure for him. The idea of being a family with Toru became harder to resist, especially with Kaori’s apparent permission lingering in her mind.

So, she hatched a plan. She had an old household appliance that she knew was broken—she didn’t even try to fix it herself because she had a bigger goal in mind. On the day she decided to make her move, she got her hair done, slipped into a sexy dress that showed her cleavage, and strategically sent her son to a friend’s house to ensure she and Toru would be alone. She then messaged Toru, asking if he could come over and take a look at the appliance.

Toru showed up later that day, toolbox in hand, his usual friendly demeanor on display. She described how her heart raced as he worked, how she kept sneaking glances at him, and how the tension in the room felt electric. When he finished, she thanked him and asked if he could stay for dinner so she could “properly thank him” for all the times he had helped her and her son.

But before she could even get to dinner, she made her move. She leaned in closer, her voice soft, and tried to subtly let him know she was interested in more than just his handyman skills. Unfortunately for her, Toru didn’t take the bait.

Instead, he shut her down immediately. “I think you misunderstood,” he said, his tone polite but firm. “I’m just here to help.” And with that, he left.

The fallout was swift and brutal. Not long after, Kaori and the other moms began freezing her out. The invitations to wine nights stopped, and at school events, they avoided her like the plague. Even Kaori, the one who had suggested she “borrow” Toru in the first place, turned on her completely.

The blog post ended with the single mom asking her readers for advice. She wanted to know if she should confront Kaori privately to smooth things over or if she should just let it go. The comments section was wild. People were practically screaming at her to move out immediately, saying things like, “You need to leave before they ruin your reputation completely!” and “This is beyond repair—get out of there!”

Honestly, I couldn’t stop thinking about the story. It’s messy, dramatic, and full of those “what were you thinking?!” moments. But at the same time, I couldn’t help but feel for her. That could never be me though. 😂

Still, you’ve got to wonder: was Kaori serious when she made that suggestion, or was it some kind of cruel setup? And what about Toru—was he really the innocent husband who just wanted to help, or was there something more going on? My goodness...(._ .)
