So two days ago I ended up meeting some news friends in Shinjuku! It was funny because it was random and I was not in the mood to do anything that night. I just wanted to do a little shopping at Don Quijote and go straight home. I was just on my way to the train station when two tall Swedish guys approached me. They told me how beautiful and tall I was and asked me to join them outside for some beer. At first I planned to say "thank you but I'm busy" and then leave but I can't really explain why I decided to stay and talk with them. I guess it’s because I didn't sense any danger from them. Also I like meeting people from other countries, both boys and girls. Let me be clear that I would normally never respond to napa ( guys trying to hit on you) but I honestly felt no red flags from them. They were just visiting Japan for fun and culture and we would all be together in public places. So the two guys asked if I wanted to join them and their friends to sit down and have a drink. Me having a "boujee" moment, turned up my nose and said "beer outside? Not a beer garden.. just beer...while sitting outside?" - lol "Yeah! We'll treat you!" They said happily and cheerfully, not picking up my condescending tone. :p So I thought why not? The last person I met from Sweden was so incredibly sweet and one of my best friends from high school but she was a girl. Also I tend to get along really well with European women but this would be a first hanging out with the opposite gender. The guys took me over to where their friends were sitting (directly in front of the APA Tower hotel in Kabukicho). Everyone introduced themselves and were super friendly. I'll admit, the conversation was right up my ally and they made me feel very comfortable and safe. After a while they asked me if I was hungry and if I knew any places nearby. I tried to play it cool and act as if I knew some places. ( I didn't know any places -___-) but eventually we found a Korean styled yakiniku restaurant! We ordered tons of cow tongue, Kalbi and vegetables and they washed it all down with beer and Makoli. After that we decided to head to Karaoke! That experience was a first- there was more screaming and a lot less singing! They also sung me happy birthday in Swedish which was very sweet and interesting and we also dressed up in cosplay! Most Karaoke places in Japan provide a free selection of cosplay outfits so we took full advantage of that. Afterwards I became very tried and they were kind enough to place me in a taxi and pay to have me go from Shinjuku to Yurigaoka station in Kanagawa which could be pricey. I was super thankful that they ended up paying, even though I insisted on paying myself. We also all exchanged social media accounts so now I have cool new Swedish friends! He was trying meat for the first time in years! Vegetarian boy. lol This guy above was like 6’8! Now I know how my friends feel around me it felt strange looking up at someone else. I have more pictures and I may upload them later. Labels: Gaijin, japan, kabukicho, karaoke, Swedish boys, tokyo, yakiniku |
