Valentines day at Tokyo Dome

Remember when I said I would do vlogs instead of blogging? I'm still going to keep my promise but in the meantime I decided to blog about my first valentines in Japan.

So while everyone on Facebook was debating wether or not if V-day should even exist, I decided to spend the day off of Facebook & in the real world. I ended up celebrating Valentines day the Japanese way. If you don't know how the Japanese spend there Valentines day I'll give a quick explanation.

In Japan, the tradition for Valentine’s Day is about girls giving chocolate to guys ~ Men recieve boxes of chocolate from not only their wives and girlfriends, but their female co-workers, friends and daughters. Different types of chocolates have different meanings like “giri choco” is obligation chocolate. Usually you would give giri choco to male co-workers, casual acquaintances & others to whom they have no romantic attachment. Giri choco should be no more than 10 dollars so it's relatively cheap.

Then you have "tomo choco" which is a somewhat new gift giving tradition. It's where girls give chocolate to there female friends.

Then you have “honmei choco" which literally means "true feeling chocolate". Honmei choco is given to men whom the giver has romantic feelings for. This chocolate is often given to boyfriends, potential boyfriends & husbands. Honmei chocolate is usually higher-quality & more expensive than giri choco. Honmei choco could also be homemade chocolate for a personal customized feeling.

A month later on March 14th thats when the guys return the favor by giving various gifts to women. That day is called "White Day".

I decided to give this block of chocolate as a gift. lol jk jk!

                                                         ( making my honmei choco)

I actually already gave an explanation of Valentines day in Japan before. I'm only explaining it again so there is a better understanding of what I did this year.

So for this Valentines day I decided to go out with a new friend of mine. He researched different things to do the day before & gave me 3 options.

Option #1: Tokyo Dome (which I've been to already but they have love illuminations there & it was said to be even more romantic on Valentines day!)

Option #2: Aquarium in Shinagawa hotel

Option #3: Tennoz Airu

I told him I was interested in going to the Tokyo Dome. I love surprises and trying out new things but because I wanted the day to be perfect I decided to stick with a place I've been and trusted would be enjoyable.

I have to admit though...I didn't regret going to Tokyo Dome again because I had a really great time!

A quick explanation of how the day went & then I'll attach pictures:

The photos will speak for themselves! Before I left my room, I handed out chocolates(giri chico) to my friends in the dorm( I also gave chocolate to other friends the day before when I went to Shibuya 109. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture). Then I left to meet up with my other friend & I handed him homemade chocolate. He seemed very happy! We then headed to Tokyo Dome City & after we arrived we went straight to the food court & ate. He had octopus balls & I have ramen with fried gyoza. When we finished eating we headed to the arcade & we took purikura. After that we got on the Ferris wheel (The BIG-O) & it was amazing! I've already been on it once before but this time felt even more special. Following the ride, we tried our luck at the UFO catcher machines & we won nothing but he tried his best. We did lots of site seeing so we rested at Starbucks & watched many guys open their honmei chocolates! OH Yes! I forgot! Some band named U-Kiss was at Tokyo Dome & they were shaking hands. I have no clue who they are though :~/
